FF3-12 20/20 Unhappy – What you should know
Mohan RAJAN India
Cataract surgery has become a refractive surgery. Patients expectations are very high. Recently we are coming up across lot patients who are 6/6, N6 vision but very unhappy for various reasons. This video highlights the various problems which are responsible for unhappy patients after a successful cataract surgery. This video also emphasis the importance of preoperative counseling, correct choice of IOL, consistent surgical technique, and post operative management. The goal is happy patients. FF3-13 Transforming Cornea’s and Restoring Vision: The magic of simple limbal epithelial transplant Jitender JINAGAL India This video presentation demonstrates Simple Limbal Epithelial Transplantation (SLET) across diverse scenarios, highlighting procedural variations. It includes technique of simple auto SLET, SLET with 360 degree or lesser conjunctival autograft. The video aims to showcase the adaptability and refinement of SLET for improved corneal restoration outcomes. FF3-14 Flap Fiasco Post Trauma Saumil KOTHARI India This video explores the surgical management of a fragile LASIK flap following trauma, highlighting the process of flap amputation to improve the ocular surface. It focuses on a challenging case where the flap became compromised due to trauma, leading to risk of further complications such as infection or inflammation. The video demonstrates the step-by step procedure of carefully removing the damaged flap, ensuring minimal disruption to the underlying corneal tissue. It also covers the importance of preserving the corneal architecture and optimizing visual outcomes post-amputation. With expert commentary and detailed surgical footage, the video provides valuable insights into managing complex LASIK flap complications, offering cataract and refractive surgeons effective techniques for enhancing recovery and restoring ocular surface health in post-traumatic cases. FF3-15 Battle of the Bulge – Surgical option for acute hydrops Sujatha MOHAN India Hydrops is sight threatening complication may occur in patients with advanced keratoconus. Most patients respond to conservative medical management, severe cases need surgical intervention. Video outlines injection of C3F8 gas, use of venting incision, near total DALK and lastly with Hydrops a full thickness interrupted corneal compression sutures through the ruptured DM to overcome this problem. FF3-16 Evolution of Laser Vision Correction: Surface ablation to lenticule extraction Kala BABY THOTTAM India Laser technology has revolutionized refractive error correction, granting patients independence from glasses and redefining quality of vision. This evolution ranges from surface-ablation to first generation LASIK involving flap-creation with microkeratome. Second generation introduced femtosecond lasers for flap creation, enabling uniform thin flaps. Third generation, exemplified by topography-guided & wavefront-guided ablation, based on individual corneal & refractive characteristics to minimize higher-order aberrations. Finally, Keratorefractive Lenticule Extraction (KLEx) represents minimally invasive approach, using femtosecond lasers to create a lenticule of corneal tissue. This includes SILK (Smooth Incision Lenticule Keratomileusis), SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction), CLEAR (Corneal Lenticule Extraction for Advanced Refractive Correction) & SmartSight. This video discusses key advancements in each generation
of laser vision correction, highlighting the impact of this technology in patients lives. FF3-17 Just Keep Smiling: A beginner surgeon’s ordeal in lenticule based refractive surgery
Garvita DABAS India
Lenticule based refractive surgeries have revolutionized the art of keratorefractive procedures pertaining to the safety, efficacy, and predictability of results. However, it is no secret that they have a steep learning curve and can be intimidating for the beginners. With an exponential increase in the number of refractive procedures, many young surgeons are learning the art of Small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) surgery. We present a video-based series in detail which reveal the various dilemmas and challenges confronted by novice surgeons in their initial learning phase of SMILE surgeries. This video may provide an insight into tackling the obstacles faced and soothe the anxious minds of budding surgeons.
